Grosmont is ideally located for day trips. The main attraction for adults and children is the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway which runs from Pickering to Grosmont. The Steam train can be seen and heard from the cottage's front door.

Closer to the cottage is the Flamingo Land Zoo and Theme Park, boasting some of the biggest rides around. More tranquil attractions close by include the Lavender Farms, Walled Gardens and Museums - Eden Camp, an ex WW2 prison camp, being one of the more unusual.

{ Thirsk - 'All Creatures Great and Small'
You can visit Thirsk home and surgery to vet James Herriott in 'All Creatures Great and Small'. The 1950s themed rooms give a unique tribute to Alf Wight – the author of the James Herriot novels. You can have hands on fun in the farm and try your hand in the TV studios. Visitors can also investigate a wide variety of veterinary equipment.

Goathland - 'Heartbeat'
This moorland village has attracted visitors since the 19th Century but numbers soared as a result of its setting for Aidensfield in the television series 'Heartbeat'. There is a station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and walkers can enjoy a stroll to Mallyan Spout, Beck Hole, Darnholm, Grosmont and the Roman Road.
